Yesung It's Complicated Concert in Singapore

(x)clusive!: Yesung’s ‘It’s Complicated’ in Singapore: A Concert That Felt Like Home

Just seven months after performing with Super Junior at Super Show Spin-off: Halftime in Singapore last July 2024, Yesung returned to Singapore, this time in a more intimate setting for his solo concert, It’s Complicated’. Held at The Theatre @ Mediacorp, the evening was more than just a showcase of his vocal prowess—it was a carefully crafted story about life’s everyday emotions, beautifully brought to life through music.

A Story Told Through Music

Unlike a typical concert setlist, ‘It’s Complicated’ was structured like the rhythm of an ordinary day, capturing its highs, lows, moments of reflection, and quiet endings. The show opened with ‘Small Things’, ‘Between’, and ‘Like Us’, much like the first thoughts of the morning—simple yet profound, setting the tone for what was to come.

As the setlist progressed, so did the energy. ‘Beautiful Night’, ‘Eat’s OK’, and ‘Pink Magic’ brought a sense of excitement, mirroring those bursts of adrenaline and lighthearted moments we experience throughout the day. Yesung made these performances even more engaging by tossing snack sachets into the crowd and even stepping off the stage at one point to get a closer look at his fans, adding a personal touch to the experience.

Then came a shift. As the ‘day’ wound down, the mood turned more introspective with ‘Parallel Lines’, ‘Beautiful Paradox’, and ‘Fly’, carrying a sense of quiet contemplation—those moments when we pause to reflect, lost in thought as the evening settles in.

By the time the encore arrived with ‘Silhouette’ and ‘Slide Away”’ it felt like the end of a long day—the kind where nothing particularly extraordinary happened, yet it still left a lasting impression.

A Concert That Felt Like a Conversation

Throughout the concert, Yesung shared thoughts that were deeply relatable:

“You think my idea isn’t good? But we can’t please everyone right?”
“Today was so busy, but nothing really stood out.”
“Small things make a difference.”
“There’s no need to rush things—nights like this, doing nothing, sound okay too.”
“For today, this is enough.”

Many times, we don’t give ourselves enough credit for simply getting through the day. The mundane, seemingly insignificant moments—the deep sighs after a long day, the brief pauses to collect our thoughts, or even just allowing ourselves to rest—are often overlooked, yet they shape our lives just as much as the big milestones. Through his music and words, Yesung reminded us that it’s okay to slow down, that our feelings are valid, and that sometimes, just existing and making it through the day is more than enough.

These reflections made the concert feel like more than just a performance. It felt like a quiet, heartfelt conversation with a friend—one whom you may not meet often, but when you do, you instantly reconnect.

A Live Band That Brought the Music to Life

A standout aspect of the show was the live band that accompanied Yesung throughout the night. Their presence added richness to every song, making even the softest ballads feel immersive. The band didn’t overpower his vocals but instead complemented them, allowing his voice to truly shine.

A Hug in the Form of a Voice

If there’s one thing that stood out most, it was Yesung’s voice—warm, soothing, and comforting, like a hug you didn’t know you needed. Each note carried an emotion, whether it was longing, nostalgia, or quiet contentment.

It’s (Not That) Complicated

Yesung’s ‘It’s Complicated’ was more than just a concert—it was an experience, a reflection of life’s small yet meaningful moments. There was no flashy choreography or elaborate stage effects. Instead, the night was built on simplicity, sincerity, and emotion.

For Singapore ELFs, this wasn’t just a concert; it was a rare opportunity to see Yesung in his element, expressing himself in the most honest way possible. It was like meeting an old friend, catching up, and realizing that despite our different lives, we share the same emotions, the same fleeting thoughts, and the same quiet moments of reflection.

Life doesn’t always have to be grand to be meaningful. Sometimes, the quiet, ordinary moments are what truly stay with us. And perhaps, that’s what made this night so special. It’s not that complicated after all.
