(x)clusive interview with 10CM

(x)clusive!: 10CM Talks Music and His Plans for Centiners

10CM sat down for an interview with (x)clusive on the second day of his sold-out “10CM Closer to You” shows in Singapore and shared about his thoughts on returning to Singapore, music and what he would love to do with his fans Centiners!

Q: Welcome back to Singapore, 10CM! How does it feel to be performing in Singapore again after so long, and to do two shows this time?

Firstly, I am so sorry that it took me 5 years to be back in Singapore… I am really happy that I get to meet my Singapore fans at a larger venue. I had my first performance and I am thankful for the very warm welcome. I hope to return to Singapore more often in the future to meet everyone.

Q: Is there anything in particular you’re hoping to do during this Singapore trip?

I would like to try Bak Kut Teh. I have only heard about it but I have yet to try it. I heard it was good.

Q: There are so many music programs on both public broadcasting stations and YouTube. If you could create your own music programme, what kind of music programme would it be?

I would like to create a rock-focused music programme if I get to do it…

Q: You have worked with many different singers. If you could explore another genre of music, what kind of music would you want to learn and create?

I started off in a rock band when I first started making music. Even though I am currently playing acoustic and popular music, I would like to properly start rock music again.

Q: You are known to the general public for your drama soundtracks. And recently, Spring Snow from Lovely Runner is getting a lot of love. In the song, the lyrics go, “Cos I’m falling slow in love with you.” Is there anything you’ve fallen slowly in love with recently? For example, a hobby, a type of food.

I started working out a few years ago. Even though it is not really fun but I will gradually work on it.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration for your music, and is there a particular song that’s close to your heart?

I look for inspiration through interesting stories I hear during my daily life. I also look back at the many memories from my childhood. The song that I can think of that I exceptionally like at the moment is the song titled “Stalker”.

Q: If you are not a singer, what do you think you would be doing?

Before I was determined to be a singer, I was in the midst of preparing to be a teacher so I guess maybe I might be a teacher?

(Interviewer: What major?)

I was actually preparing to be Korean teacher… I guess?

Q: Can you share with us the meaning behind your fandom name Centiner?

Honestly speaking… There is no particular meaning to the name since it was a name that someone else gave. However, I would think the meaning behind “Centiner” would be the people who likes 10CM. Hence, it is a heart-fluttering name that still makes me feel happy even though it is a name that has been officially recognized.

Q: You are an idol in the K-Indie world. If you could produce a lightstick, what design do you have in mind, if any?

I actually did it once in the past but now that I would really like to make it happen, I would go with the “10cm” ruler since I am 10CM.

Q: You have been well known for doing things just for the fans – such as organizing monthly concerts in person, in the cinemas, busking, hosting Soran Night with Go Young Bae and so on. What else would you like to do with your fans? Do you have any special fan event ideas in mind?

There’s a 10CM song titled “Late Night Walk”. Even though we’re not sure when there will be a chance, I would like to create a concert were Centiners and I can really stay up all night together.
