What happens when the hunters get hunted?
In the crime thriller The Plot, Kang Dong Won plays a hitman, leading a team that carries out contract killings by orchestrating accidents in order to avoid the cases being labelled as murders. However, he soon realises that his team isn’t the only one in this game as one of his members end up dying in a freak accident. Will he be able to find the other contract killers and save the rest of his team?
I won’t deny that I decided to catch this movie for Kang Dong Won, but also the premise of the movie is fascinating! It all sounds like a huge conspiracy theory – that maybe some accidents aren’t actually accidental but carefully planned killings disguised as unlucky events. That people were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
There were so many plot twists in the movie but I won’t spoil the fun for you. Other than the plot twists which I enjoyed, the movie truly delivered a fun watch with the storyline. The camera work showing how each accident was set up, leaving nothing to chance, was also really well-done and immersive! Not to mention the acting of the main cast was on point. Kang Dong Won may be the main lead but each main cast member truly pulled their own weight in bringing their characters to life. I was particularly impressed by Lee Hyun Wook‘s performance as a cross-dressing man who comfortably switches between his masculine and feminine side. Plus there’s a surprise cameo (surprise for me maybe because I didn’t watch the trailers or read reviews before going into the theatres) that I really enjoyed too!
If I had to pick something I was disappointed with, it’d probably be the ending. There were still unanswered questions and it did feel like the movie ended up leaving viewers hanging. I wasn’t too bothered about it because it mirrors life, in a way. Sometimes you just don’t get the answers you seek. But if you like very clear-cut endings, you may feel a little frustrated so fair warning!
