Korean Hip-hop collective Dream Perfect Regime (commonly known as DPR) stopped by Singapore to perform at their sold out show last Sunday (4 December 2022) at The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa, completing their 40th show on their global tour “The Regime World Tour”.
Performing on stage that evening were crew members Christian Yu (better known by his stage name DPR Ian), Hong Da-bin (who goes by his stage name DPR LIVE), and Kim Kyung-mo (also known as DPR CREAM). Crew member Lee Jung-soo (also known as DPR CLINE), who is DPR LIVE’s cousin, also made his first appearance in Singapore when he joined his cousin on stage for the song “Set It Off”.
So here are 5 reasons why you shouldn’t have missed out on DPR’s “The Regime World Tour in Singapore”.
#1 The Energy
Being a hip-hop collective putting up a show, the audience would expect no less from DPR to put up high energy performances that could literally bring the whole house down. The DPR crew didn’t disappoint. In fact, the performing members had such an overwhelming amount of stage presence that they naturally owned the stage.
DPR CREAM, who does most of the DPR crew’s sonic output, appeared on stage at the beginning of the show to perform a mix of his self produced tracks on his keyboard, which included “billboard uwus” and the instrumental version of his song “Problems” in his DJ set, to deafening cheers that filled the Coliseum.
DPR LIVE was also greeted with thunderous cheers with each performance, and even when he returned to stage after every change in wardrobe! Needless to say, DPR IAN commanded the same amount of enthusiasm from the fans throughout his setlist that evening.
DPR fans (affectionately referred to as Dreamers by the members) certainly had a great time during the approximately 2.5 hour long show for they maintained a high level of energy singing, dancing, rapping and even cheering for their favourite boys for every song!
#2 Distinct Audiovisual Experience
(feat. 101 props you wouldn’t usually see at a show)
Throughout “The Regime World Tour in Singapore” that evening, DPR presented top-notch auditory performances through all the songs they sang on their extensive tour setlist, and the crew had also carefully selected the colour of the lights, stage effects (e.g. stage fog), use of props and outfits to match with the songs.
Notable moments from the show included:
- During the song “Legacy”, a huge astronaut inflatable towered over DPR LIVE who was also decked in an orange astronaut jumpsuit under a military vest.
- DPR LIVE started his performance of “Venus” by sitting in his chair while holding onto a bunch of red flowers (how sweet ><). He gave the flowers to the audience throughout the serenade, definitely exuding boyfriend vibes complete with his denim jacket look!
- While singing “Hula Hoops”, DPR LIVE began throwing huge inflatable watermelon swimming tubes into the audience. A handful of VIP ticket holders waved the pink wigs they received as part of their VIP package during DPR LIVE’s “Yellow Cab”. The pink wigs were revealed to be DPR’s surprise gift for VIP ticket holders at all tour stops for “The Regime World Tour”. Fan theory has it that DPR LIVE’s love interest in the “Yellow Cab” music video was the girl with pink wig named “Candy” who eventually switched into a blue wig at the end of the music video. The blue wig could have been a spoiler to MAMAMOO’s Hwasa’s feature in the song “Hula Hoops” which was subsequently released.
- Artificial snow during “Winterfall”, paper confetti during “Ballroom Extravaganza”, and bubbles during “No Blueberries”
#3 The Conversations
Aside from showing their gratitude to the crowd during short talk breaks in between their sets, DPR LIVE and DPR IAN checked in with the fans, making sure they were alright and shared some personal thoughts which were inspiring.
In particular, DPR LIVE said this and it really resonated with us,
“Although life is not perfect, I hope everyone is trying to live a happy life. Not a life for others but a life for your dreams, not your family’s dreams, your friends’ dreams. I feel like life, you live it once but feel for the stars, dream big and really go for what you want.”
In his short talk, DPR IAN shared how his friend was inspired by a talk the both of them had and also expressed how he wanted to represent all of the people in this world. “I want to really say thank you from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me to be comfortable with myself and tell my story. Life is too short. Please, if you love something, fight for it, ok? Just go for it.”
#4 The Dedication
DPR doesn’t hide their gratitude, affection, and love for their fans. We can’t leave out how much fan service the guys give to their fans by singing closer to the stage, pointing into the crowd and forming hearts occasionally throughout the show. Just like how DPR LIVE sends his well wishes to the fans in his talk, DPR IAN was also quick to catch on what was happening on-site. He requested to pause the show several times and requested help from the security to give assistance to some of the fans who were close to fainting, then made sure that the crowd was alright before he continued with his performances.
#5 The Magical Connection between DPR and Dreamers
Lastly, just like how songs cannot go without stories and performers cannot go without an audience, DPR and Dreamers complement each other.
Dreamers’ energy at the show that evening was unrivaled. We were blown away by how energetic the fans were throughout the show, definitely a clear indication of their passion for the DPR crew.
There was no other better way to end “The Regime World Tour in Singapore” with the entire crowd singing along to DPR LIVE’s “To Myself” and chanting “DPR We Gang Gang”.
