Are you a fan of the many talent survival reality shows, such as ‘Produce 101’, ‘The Unit’, ‘Boys 24’, or ‘Superstar K’? Then ‘Idol Producer’ should definitely be in your to-watch list.
Highly influenced by MNET’s ‘Produce 101’, ‘Idol Producer’ is the latest show to ride on the wave of survivor programmes. It will include 100 selected trainees, from different entertainment companies and talent agencies, whom will be graded individually, undergo mentorship and intensive training, and given group missions to complete over a gruelling period of four months. A final nine will be chosen by the audience, also known as Citizen Producers, via a voting system to debut and promote as a project boy group.
For K-pop fans, besides the exciting challenges each week, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to catch some of K-pop’s best idols on it too! EXO’s Zhang Yixing will be the Representative of Citizen Producers, GOT7’s Jackson Wang will take up the role of Rap Mentor, while Cosmic Girls’ Cheng Xiao and Pristin’s Kyulkyung will both be Dance Mentors to the trainees.
Chinese singer-songwriter Li Ronghao and Chinese-American rapper MC Jin are also added to the strong panel of ‘mentors’, and will be taking on the role as Vocal Instructor and Rap Mentor respectively.
Having experienced the public voting craze during ‘Super Girls 超级女声’ and the more recent ‘The Rap of China 中国有嘻哈’, ‘Idol Producer’ is aiming for the nine-membered boy group to be the representative of this internet-savvy generation, where the economy is generated by fans, since telecommunication is easily and readily available, in an attempt to write a new page in China’s idol economy.
‘Idol Producer’, which is produced and broadcasted by China’s video streaming platform iQIYI, will premiere on 19th January 2018 (Friday), 8PM.
