The K-Pop World Festival 2017 Preliminaries were held successfully in Singapore during the first weekend of August, with a special appearance by Lee Jungshin of CNBLUE as one of the guest judges.
The contestants were split into the Vocal Category and Performance Category. The Vocal Category comprised of soloists Tommy, Eeqa, MK, Syerin, Akif, Mersie, and Qistina, while the Performance Category included the groups Ill4sion, XIX, Beyond Infinity, SSENZE, Fullout Squad, DeS Crew, H.I.M, and STARRESECONDS.
Their covers ranged from vocalist powerhouse Ailee, to K-Pop sensations Red Velvet and BTS. With all of the contestants putting up strong performances and drawing loud applause from the audience, it was eventually revealed that vocalist Akif is the winner of the Vocal Category with his riveting song and dance performance to a cover of his favourite artiste, Ailee. The champion of the Performance Category is H.I.M, an all-girl group that wowed the crowd with their visually entertaining VIXX stage.
Mini Meet & Greet Session with CNBLUE’s Lee Jungshin
Fans of CNBLUE’s Jungshin were also in for a treat as a few lucky ones were chosen to go on stage to have a picture with him during the mini fanmeet. Jungshin said that he was very happy to meet all the BOICEs in attendance because he didn’t expect so many fans to turn up. On the topic of upcoming schedules, Jungshin mentioned that while he is busy working on the next CNBLUE album, he is also looking out for new dramas.
Speaking on his idol journey, Jungshin shared that being an idol definitely has its challenges, and the journey may not be easy, but he has gained a lot of happy memories and experiences. We certainly hope Jungshin’s words of encouragement will give the Vocal and Performance winners strength as they move on to the next stage of the competition!
