Arirang TV (along with Shanghai’s Dragon TV) held their first-ever overseas concert, Simply K-pop Tour 2014 in Shanghai, on 22 March 2014. As a prelude, a press conference was held the day before at Shanghai Intercontinental Hotel and was attended by the performers, government representatives of both countries and media personnel.
During the press conference, the artistes sent greetings to their Chinese fans and many of them confessed that this being their first trip to Shanghai, they were actually worried that there would not be any of their fans present to support them, drawing laughter from the crowd. In addition, to those who have already purchased tickets to watch the concert, the artistes expressed their utmost thanks and said that they will work hard to put up a good performance.
This concert is in effect for a good cause as part of the proceeds will go towards building the ‘Korea-China Friendship Library’ in a city affected by the devastating Sichuan earthquake, Ankang, , through the China Youth Development Foundation. A plaque commemorating this good deed, engraved with the names of all teams participating in this concert, was ceremoniously received by VIXX‘s and Rainbow‘s respective leaders, N and Jaekyung, on behalf of all the artistes, during the press conference.
Entercrew, one of the concert’s organizer, stated, “The purpose of this concert is not only meant to improve the friendly ties between Korea and China but also to do charitable deeds through K-Pop, and to unite K-Pop fans from all over the world. The concert will be broadcasted on 11th and 18th April on Arirang TV and Dragon TV to 192 countries, 105 million households and 330 million people around the world.”
The government representatives also presented a signed MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to hold the concert again, in an attempt to build a whole series of such libraries, across various parts of greater China. . In this way, China’s next generation of children will be able to learn about Hangeul and the Korean culture, and this in turn will drive a positive impact on K-Pop and the Hallyu Wave.
Big Bang’s G-dragon and Taeyang, f(x), Block B and Crayon Pop were unfortunately not able to attend the press conference due to scheduling conflicts, but they joined the star-studded concert line-up the following day. With a stunning 360-degrees stage set-up, special lighting effects and 12 stellar teams (BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and Taeyang, f(x), Crayon Pop, U-KISS, Rainbow, Block B, VIXX, A-JAX, C-Real, Kan Mi Youn and Jjun) putting on a 3 hour-long show, this is definitely one not to be missed! Do remember to catch the broadcast of Simply K-pop Tour 2014 in Shanghai on Arirang TV on April 11th and 18th at 1PM (KST)!
