Before holding an encore concert back in Seoul, B.A.P staged a successful concert in Singapore on August 8th as the last stop of their 2013 B.A.P Live on Earth Pacific tour. It promised to be as good as what the boys described as during their press conference, minus their supposed revealing of their new song ‘ BADMAN’.
Although the concert ran for slightly under two hours, it felt a tad shorter than that. As fans were filing out of the concert hall, some commented on how they wished it would have been longer and/or they could have sang more songs, but it must be because everyone had so much fun that they did not realize time flew by so fast!
Kicking off the start of the concert with ‘Warrior’, ‘What The Hell’ and ‘No Mercy’ definitely reminded everyone of their trademark powerful songs and stage presence. The crowd waved their green MaToki lightsticks and cheered in unison along to the songs, some of the fan chants lost in the excited cheers. Through duo performances, the audience got to see more of the members showing off their talents. Main vocalists, Daehyun and Youngjae, teamed up to perform ‘I Believe I Can Fly’; Leader Yongguk and Daehyun performed an R&B version of “I Remember”, youngest members Jongup & Zelo performed BANG&ZELO’s ‘Never Give Up’ and Himchan and Yongguk performed ‘Sexy Clap’.
The videos shown during the concert played out like a sci-fi adventure film, showing how the B.A.P members landed on Earth. The introduction segment had the boys stand in front of a wide screen as it scanned their profiles and allowed them to show off their personal traits or talents. Leader Yongguk was dubbed as a ‘singing rapper’ and promptly sang and danced along to Secret’s ‘Yoo Hoo’. Himchan mimicked Yongguk‘s rap line in ‘No Mercy’, followed by Daehyun who also rapped one of Zelo‘s rap lines.
After Youngjae and Jongup were made to do sexy dances for their segments, when it was Zelo‘s introduction time, Youngjae encouraged the youngest member to perform the famous ‘Gwiyomi Player‘. Zelo did his own sexy version of it and leader Yongguk and Daehyun were also made to do it as well, though Daehyun only managed up till number two. It was surprising to see Yongguk doing the Gwiyomi Player, since he has always portrayed a tough, stoic, masculine image.
A good thing about the concert videos was that subtitling was completely eliminated, allowing for an easier concert experience for the audience, however cheesy the lines may be. One of the more interactive videos with fans was a ‘dance camera‘ segment where the camera would zoom in on various audience members and get them to dance and receive ratings on their dances. One fan was so shocked she got picked that she hid from the camera and was given a negative rating on-screen, which drew much laughter from the audience.
Finally, when it came to the encore of their concert, the members were depicted as landing back on Planet MaTo and brought the party right back on for BABYs with another medley of songs including ‘COMA’, ‘하지마 (Stop It)’ and ‘Crash’ as they treated fans to their more cutesy and goofy sides.
Jo, a Singaporean BABY and a fan of Daehyun, commented, “I always think B.A.P performs like they truly enjoy the stage, and not just being stressed about how they look or whether they are dancing impressively enough. They just love their stage. It’s more obvious when they perform ‘하지마 (Stop It)’.”
In a chorus of goodbyes from the members, B.A.P ended the concert with a promise that they will be back in Singapore again. With the amount of fun and enjoyment through the concert, we sure do look forward to attending another awesome concert thrown by these six aliens from Planet MaTo in the future!
