If you are in Seoul and have no idea what to do in the evening, then Banpo Bridge is definitely one place you should consider visiting.
You must be thinking what’s the hype about this bridge, since it looks just like any other bridge. It probably is in the morning and afternoon, however, at night, Banpo Bridge transforms into a Rainbow Fountain – the world’s longest bridge fountain.
This bridge fountain is programmed to play different shows during the day and night. During the day, the fountain shows a hundred different configurations meant to emulate the swaying of willow branches and willow leaves, which I hadn’t had the chance to witness yet. When the sun goes down, that is the highlight of the Rainbow Fountain, as 200 lights illuminate the bridge, with rainbow-coloured jets of water dancing in the air in synchronization with the music for a full fifteen minutes. Spectacular is all I can say.

The best place to enjoy the Rainbow Fountain shows is undeniably at Hangang Park, where you can sit and watch the displays, while having a mini picnic on the grass patch. And that was what the whole bunch of us from the Surfing The Korean Wave Tour did. We had a Chi-Mac Party (which actually means Chicken & Beer Party), while enjoying the scheduled show, in a really relaxed atmosphere.
However, if you are heading to Banpo Bridge to catch the Rainbow Fountain, do note that the place is always filled with couples on dates since the atmosphere at Hangang Park could be really romantic when night falls. Thus, would highly recommend this amazing spot should you decide to bring someone special out.
Fret not if you are single because you can always call up your group of friends, order some take-away (I would definitely recommend Chicken and Beer) and have an awesome evening catching up with them. You will enjoy it no less than couples on dates.
