It was just like any other Friday at Clarke Quay, filled with bustling crowds out to enjoy a break for the weekends, when a huge crowd of 2NE1 fans gathered on Read Bridge last night, ready to have fun at the 2NE1 Fans Party – not exactly anticipating that the real 2NE1 would actually come out to perform live at the Party!
Since Monday, various online Korean Entertainment sites in Singapore had been dropping hints about a fan party on Friday night, and (x)clusive participated as well, asking our readers: “If you can spend an ideal Friday night KPOP style, how would you want to spend it, with who?” We received quite a lot of responses coming from fans of BTOB, B.A.P, EXO, NU’EST (who just came to town recently – read about it here!), Big Bang and the protagonist 2NE1, saying that they wished to have a date with the members, go for a movie together, or watch them perform live. Well it sure was going to stay as a dream, unless it really came true – and it did for the Blackjacks!
It was first revealed – A special hologram performance event by fans of 2NE1 was prepared for Friday. Fans were encouraged to come dressed in 2NE1-style outfits for the party.
But tension was high on Thursday when rumours of 2NE1 in Singapore were flying around the social networks, and photos of the girls shopping at Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands surfaced. However, no one was sure why they were here so early, since their concert in Singapore is set for December. Blackjacks were fervent, and some even connected them up with the hologram event, but there were no confirmation. Up till 7.30PM last night, the fans were pretty much kept in the dark – until 2NE1 stepped onstage with their amazing performances.
Event Timeline:
5PM: Location released. Fans rush down to Clarke Quay.
7.15PM: Buskers on scene sang some of the best loved hits by 2NE1, such as I’m The Best, Can’t Nobody, I Don’t Care, and I Love You.
7.30PM: Lights dim. DJ duo Muttons On The Move from 987FM appears onstage to announce the start of event. A really cool Hologram Performance by Blackjacks was put up!
7.35PM: From the darkness, 2NE1 emerges! The girls started their performance with I Don’t Care, Fire, Can’t Nobody, and I’m The Best!
During the short interview, CL exclaimed, “It’s our third time being here (in Singapore), we love it here, we love you guys!” And when asked what their inspiration for music was, they said they listen to all kinds of music, and their fans, Blackjacks, are a huge source of inspiration as well. 2NE1 has been portraying the image of independent women, and to that CL answered, “We would love to represent girls and independent ladies!”
2NE1 wrapped up the night with an encore performance of I Don’t Care, and as sudden as their appearance, they left – leaving the message that they would love to come back again and hope to see all their fans at 2NE1 New Evolution Concert in Singapore on December 1st.
It must have been an amazing experience for the fans since this was the first time a Kpop guerrilla event was organised in Singapore, totally free and spontaneous. To be able to catch their favourite Korean artist live on a Friday night must have been a dream for many – who would have known 2NE1 will perform live in Singapore out of the blue, at such a unique venue!
