Next month, Singapore will be hosting the Formula 1 race at the Marina Bay area. For all those fast cars enthusiast who cant get enough of the F1 action and are heading to South Korea sometime in October, you can get a second dose of all the heart pumping Formula 1 action when South Korea hosts the Korea Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Coming this October, South Korea will be hosting Round 16 of the 2011 Formula 1 Grand Prix from 14 October 2011 to 16 October 2011.
The Korea International Circuit (KIC) is South Korea’s first international racing circuit. Being Located in Sampo District, Jeollanam-do, the KIC is at the heart of the Southwestern Coast’s tourism, leisure and business development. It is also well recognized as a popular destination for tourists due to its picturesque views nearby Yeongam Lake and the West Sea.
For the first time in FORMULA 1’s history, a circuit has built in advance and then a city has been developing around it. Jeollanam-do is proud to have the KIC as its star attraction and a milestone for motorsports in Korea.
The KIC is the first circuit in South Korea to meet the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) Grade A standard. It is comprised of two courses – a 5.615 km international race circuit which incorporates a partial street circuit, and a 3.045 km permanent track. Designed by Hermann Tilke, the circuit incorporates traditional Korean elements, such as the roof of the main grandstand which resembles the eaves of the traditional Korean “hanok” houses. The circuit can accommodate up to 130,000 spectators, with 16,000 seats in the main grand stand
