(x)clusive!: 10 Highlights of WANNA (ONE TO) BE LOVED Fan Meeting in Bangkok

WANNA ONE is a project boy group formed by the Top 11 – consisting of Kang Daniel, Park Jihoon, Lee Daehwi, Kim Jaehwan, Ong Seongwoo, Park Woojin, Lai Kuanlin, Yoon Jisung, Hwang Minhyun, Bae Jinyoung and Ha Sungwoon – of the popular survival show, Produce 101 Season 2. Having received love calls from all over the world even before they have officially debuted, WANNA ONE’s popularity is not to be underestimated.

The group kicked off their first fan meeting tour ‘WANNA BE LOVED’ in Bangkok last Saturday and here’s ten highlights of the event as a sneak peak of what WANNABLEs can expect when they head to Singapore this Friday and Hong Kong early next month.

1. WANNA ONE can speak Thai!

During the fan meeting, the language skills of the members were tested. If you think Lee Daehwi or Lai Kuanlin, both known for being bilingual and even trilingual, would win, then your guess is wrong. When tested on their Thai speaking abilities, where the boys were asked to follow the Emcee in saying various phrases that would make WANNABLEs heart race, though each and every member tried their best, the king of impersonations in WANNA ONE, Ong Seongwoo, won hands down in this challenge when he managed to pronounce “You’re in my heart!” in Thai, perfectly.

2. WANNA ONE are not just artistes but artists

All members were asked to draw a portrait of the person on their left. However, half way through, most of the members started to apologize for doing a bad job in drawing. For instance, Lee Daehwi kept apologizing to Bae Jinyoung for not doing his handsome face any justice with his horrible artwork, and upon comparison, realized that his drawing actually looked quite similar to the Emcee instead, causing the whole hall to burst into immediate laughter. Kang Daniel, who was trying his best to draw Yoon Jisung, spent most of his time drawing a really big and pointy nose and emphasized that it was the highlight of the portrait, which many WANNABLEs readily agreed since his drawing did look quite similar to the leader. All the drawings were then given out to lucky fans via a lucky draw! Wouldn’t you want to be the lucky one too?

3. You just have to give WANNA ONE any song and they’ll dance to it for you!

Be it BTS’ ‘Boy In Luv’, Super Junior’s ‘Sorry Sorry‘, or Twice’s ‘Cheer Up‘, the boys nailed the dances. Of course, PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style‘ wasn’t an obstacle either for ‘God Daniel‘, and he was asked to do it again on the extended stage, alone. When the famous Thai song, ‘Your Heart For My Number (Kau Jai Tur Lak Bur Toh)’ by Yinglee started playing, the members showed off their freestyle dancing skills – especially Leader, Yoon Jisung, who was simply unstoppable. The Emcee then showed WANNA ONE how to do the dance properly, to which the members did an encore of it, earning them more cheers of approval from Thai WANNABLEs.

4. WANNA ONE performed Hands On Me and tracks from 1×1=1

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the boys perform ‘Hands On Me‘, this time the WANNA ONE version that they showcased during their debut ShowCon. The group also performed ‘Nayana (Pick Me)‘, ‘NEVER‘, ‘Wanna Be (My Baby)‘, and ended the fan meeting with ‘Energetic‘ and ‘Always (이 자리에)‘. One thing for sure, Kim Jaehwan’s high note during ‘NEVER‘ never fails to give us goosebumps!

5. Thai WANNABLEs celebrate Kuanlin’s birthday

As WANNA ONE’s maknae, Lai Kuanlin, will be turning 16 this Saturday (23rd September), Thai WANNABLEs prepared a birthday event for him, complete with a birthday cake and presents. To express his gratitude towards the thoughtfulness in the preparation of this mini celebration, Kuanlin wore the gifts (which were a bracelet and a necklace) immediately with the help of the Emcee. He was even spotted wearing it till the very end of the fan meeting. During the ending ment, Kuanlin shared that it is a memorable experience beyond words for him and he hopes to “return to Thailand again as soon as possible”.

6. WANNA ONE members become teary-eyed

Thai fans are well-known for their tear-inducing fan events. This time around, they’ve prepared a compilation video of the boys, from their days on the survival show, Produce 101 Season 2, to their actual debut. The video ended with “You believe in us right? Believe in us and please look behind you”. The boys then turned around to see all the fans holding slogan banners with the words “언제나 워너원과 이 자리에(Always with Wanna One, at this place)” up high. Leader Ji Sung was caught wiping tears from the corner of his eyes. We have to admit, it was hard resisting those tears and we’re sure all those who watched Produce 101 Season 2 would agree with us.

7. Park Jihoon’s wink can be both cute and sexy!

A WANNABLE left a message to ‘wink boy’ Jihoon, and requested him to do his famous wink one more time. Jihoon then revealed that there’s a cute version and a sexy version, and demonstrated both winks. The Emcee then challenged Jihoon to do a cute and sexy wink simultaneously, which Jihoon managed to pull off. The ‘wink boy’ title isn’t for nothing after all!

8. Lee Daehwi takes (only) 20 minutes to shower

Despite the accusation of him of taking too long in the showers, Daehwi cleared his name by saying he only takes around 20 minutes when showering. He also shared that at the dorms, they decide on who showers first by a fair game of ‘rock, paper, scissors’.

9. Minhyun and Woojin loves Pad Thai, but Ha Sungwoon was confused between Durian and Mangosteen?

Hwang Minhyun, who had been to Thailand previously, shared his love for Pad Thai. Park Woojin then revealed that he had his very first Thai Cuisine experience during this trip, and Minhyun was the one who recommended him to try the dish. On the other hand, being foreign to exotic fruits of Thailand, Ha Sungwoon mentioned that he really liked ‘Durian’, which was shocking to some Thai WANNABLEs. However, as he was describing, the characteristics started to not match the fruit, and it turns out that the fruit that Sungwoon likes is actually the Mangosteen. He said the smell was really strong but it didn’t taste that bad. How Sungwoon got confused between the two distinctly different fruits is beyond us, but at least the misunderstanding is cleared.

10. Ong Seongwoo couldn’t get over his mistake in his autograph

During the last part of the fan meeting, where WANNA ONE were signing on T-shirts for the lucky draw, Seongwoo made a mistake while he was signing his own autograph. He was caught by the cameraman when he was attempting to save his autograph by going over and over again. Don’t worry Seongwoo, your fans will still love it despite the mistake for sure!
