HTC “Likes” Awards Ceremony was held on Friday 22nd July at Suntec Convention Hall from 8-11PM. It is a special event whereby artistes from all over the world including Singapore’s local artistes and bloggers, gather at this one place to celebrate the creativity of the youths in Singapore. What most people wouldn’t know was that this awards show is a ceremony-cum-meet and greet for fans of popular Korean star, Jay Park and up and coming youtube sensation, Jayesslee.

Hosted by Angeline Teo, the show started off with its very first of the special guest that night. Jay Park presented ‘The Most Stylish Award’ then followed by our local blogger, Dawn Yang, who presented ‘Most Ideal Check-In’. Each category had three finalists who were all present for the entire show.

There were a total of 10 Categories ranging from ‘Best look-a-like’ contest to ‘Fastest Fingers’ First’.

The first performer for the night was Jayesslee. For some of you who don’t know who they are, Jayesslee are a pair of Korean twins: 23 year-old Janice and Sonia Lee, who were born and bred in Sydney, Australia. They’re very popular on Youtube (view their channel) and have recently started touring the globe for shows.

That night, Jayesslee brought along their band and performed 3 songs. “Sunday Morning” by Maroon 5, “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars and their newest cover, “Price Tag” by Jessie James. Janice and Sonia even rapped and beat boxed their way through, showing a new side to them.

After a few more awards were given out, home grown talent, Project Superstar, Derrick Hoh took to the stage. He performed 3 songs, 2 out from his new album. During his famous performance for J.J.Lin’s song, Love Story, he serenaded a lucky fan with the song.

Right after Derrick Hoh’s performance, 98.7FM DJs, Shan and Ros came on stage to present the award, ‘Fastest Fingers First”. The segment was rather interesting as both the DJs brought a certain flavor to judging. It was as though you were listening to your radio but this time you get to watch it live. Props to them for captivating the audience. Contestants compete to win the latest HTC phone model.

A mini Denizen show also took place bringing out the most awaited performer by most of the audience, Jay Park. Before he took to the stage, when host, Angeline Teo mentioned that it was going to be a runaway show for Denizen, fans of Jay Park were already screaming their heads off for him to appear.

True enough, he came out singing his famous track, ‘Nothin’ On You’ with models walking past and around him throughout the song. He also sang 2 songs from his newest mini album, Take A Deeper Look. That night, we were joined by Jaywalkers from all over Asia. He heated up the stage when he took off his jacket for his final song of the night, “Tonight”. Fans were giving their all when shouting the fan chants.

The final award given off for the night was none other than the ‘HTC Local Hero award’ where performing artiste’s autographed phones were placed on auction and the proceeds were donated to charity.

The highest bid for the night was Derrick Hoh’s autographed phone that was auctioned off at $920, followed by Jay Park’s autographed phone that was auctioned off at $795.

The final act for the night was Plain White T’s who crooned to 8 amazing songs. Some of their popular songs are ‘Hey There Delilah’ and ‘1,2,3,4’.

We would like to thank LAUNCH group for organizing such a wonderful event to celebrate the crowning of Singapore’s Socialholics as well as giving us such an opportunity to attend the event.
